Automattic’s new Google Apps integration connects Gmail and Drive to …

Today WordPress maker Automattic announced a new deal with Google, bringing Google Apps features directly into the WordPress.com dashboard.

According to Automattic, “the Google Apps for Work integration” enables users to “set up their own custom email address based on their domain.” In addition to email, WordPress.com users can access the typical collection of Google Apps services, like Calendar, Drive file storage, and Hangouts.

Google Apps has historically been difficult to set up for the technically-challenged, making integrations such as this one quite important for Google’s long-term growth.

Automattic’s partnership with Google, however, is not unique. The deal mirrors a similar integration with site builder tool Squarespace.
