(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Blogging platform WordPress.com (www.wordpress.com) announced on Friday that it has added .ME as its newest domain extension option.

According to the press release, WordPress.com founder Matt Mullenweg made the announcement at the international WebFest.Me conference in Montenegro in late September.

“I am very excited about this because a name can make such a huge difference,” Mullenweg said at the WebFest.Me conference. “Dot-ME, based on the fortune of your country code, ends up sounding pretty cool with a lot of domain names.”

Mullenweg says that WordPress.com was the first company to secure a two-letter .ME domain name, WP.Me. He says that in the year since its launch more than 1.3 billion people have clicked on the WP.Me URL.

“We are so proud of our ongoing association with WordPress.com,” Predrag Lesic, executive director of the .ME Registry said in a statement. “First, we experienced the explosive popularity of WP-dot-ME; and, now, this opportunity for WordPress blogs to carry a dot-ME domain name extension. We are grateful that a company as visible and vital as WordPress.com sees the worldwide appeal of dot-ME.”

According to the press release, if you want to add a .ME domain name to an existing WordPress.com site, it is only $2 per month.
