Celebrating 10 years with WordPress
The heart of our Digjitale.com is WordPress. It has been our first choice since we launched in 2012 and it has been with us ever since. This week marked the tenth anniversary of WordPress and Automattic, and with that we got the chance to see impressive numbers.
According to a blog post published by Mark Armstrong, WordPress itself started as an open source project in 2003 and went operational in 2005. 2.5 billion posts, and 3 billion comments later, WordPress is the heart of many independent publishers, bloggers, and business owners (including WooCommerce, Jetpack, Akismet, VaultPress, Polldaddy,Cloudup, Simplenote, Longreads, and more).
In addition to building a world-class publishing platform, WordPress is a company that has redefined what it means to be a global company working on the internet: having nearly 400 employees, working from home (or their preferred coworking spaces), around the world.
Today, 24 percent of all websites are either hosted on WordPress.com or use the WordPress open-source software. Automattic is also company behind a ton of related blogging tools, such as spam-filtering service Akismet, avatar-hosting service Gravatar, survey and polling tool PollDaddy, and note-taking synchronization service Simplenote.
