Google adds new Personal tab to search results to show Gmail and Photos content

Google seems to be rolling out a new feature in search results that adds a “Personal” tab to show content from private sources, like your Gmail account or Google Photos library. The addition of the tab was first reported by Search Engine Roundtable, which spotted the change earlier today.

The Personal tab works similarly to the way the existing Maps, News, or Images tabs work — instead of showing you a search for links, it just takes the entered search terms and shows you results from your Google accounts instead.

The Personal tab doesn’t show up by default — you’ll have to click through to the “More” option; it’ll be on the bottom. Google seems to be slowly rolling out the feature to users. In an informal polling of Verge staffers, most didn’t have it enabled yet.

If you do have the Personal tab, though, the feature works on both the web and mobile versions of Google. We’ve reached out to Google for more information as to when users can expect to see the Personal filter on their own accounts, and will continue to update this post as we get more information.
