WordPress Adds ‘Follow’ Button on Pages to Entice Bloggers and Visitors

WordPress.com recently underwent a series of renovations to attract more bloggers and visitors. The latest is the inclusion of a new “Follow” button, which the company introduced on Wednesday.

According to the company, the new button helps bloggers increase page views of their pages, as well as to retain the viewership. The button will appear in the bottom right-hand corner of WordPress.com, and will enable even those users who are not logged in to show their appreciation for a particular blog.

A small “Follow this blog” form will appear after clicking the button. Visitors can register their email address and get an instant subscription for that particular blog.

A subscription to a blog enables users to get instant updates via  email-messages whenever new content is added to the blog.

On being asked why the button was named “Follow” and not “Subscribe”, WordPress’ Scott Berkun said, “Although the functionality is similar to the Email subscription widget, after testing various prototypes, we learned more people clicked on the button and signed up if it were called Follow rather than Subscribe.”

“We also know subscribe suggests to some its something you pay for, whereas follow has no such connotation,” he added.
