It’s National HIV-AIDS Testing Day. And it’s the first once since new research suggesting that early treatment can stop the spread of the virus. Can a “treatment as prevention†approach turn the tide of the AIDS epidemic?
Today, Sheilah discusses the prospect with Derek Spencer and Robert Redfield. Dr. Redfield is co-founder and director of research and clinical care at the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s Institute of Human Virology. Derek Spencer is a nurse practitioner and the executive director of a treatment outreach program called the JACQUES Initiative.

Tests are delivered by mouth swab–no needles or blood taken. Results take 20 minutes, and participants get a free boxed lunch after they receive results.
