WordPress users to gather at camp

THE Sunshine Coast will host one of the most significant events of the year for a quarter of the nation’s internet users.

WordCamp Sunshine Coast on May 7-8, will be the premier gathering of the year for Australia’s WordPress community.

WordPress is a content management system popular with businesses and individuals with an online presence.

“About 25% of the internet runs on WordPress,” said Luke Carbis, chairman of the WordCamp Sunshine Coast organising committee.

WordCamp was brought to the Sunshine Coast by Mr Carbis and a team of other WordPress devotees who have attended similar events.

Mr Carbis said the not-for-profit event was designed to educate and inform about WordPress’s capabilities and new developments.

“We’re running two different tracks. One for businesses and users and one for the more technically-minded,” he said.

“The first track is for users on how you can make the most of WordPress, how you can productise your business,” he said.

“The second track is about some of the more technical factors that are coming out of WordPress.

“There are major changes happening for WordPress in the future in the development sphere that are really going to change fundamental aspects of how WordPress works.”

More than 300 people are expected to attend the two-day event at the Innovation Centre at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

The guest speakers will include Brisbane-based Ryan McCue, who has been doing innovative work on allowing outside applications to interact with WordPress.

The event is expected to draw international attendees. Tickets are $50 for the two days. For tickets or details, go to https://2016.sunshinecoast.wordcamp.org.
